Meggetland as a sporting location has a fairly recent history only dating back to the 70’s unlike many other high profile venues in Edinburgh. It was recently that hockey came to Meggetland when Boroughmuir H.C. made it their home ground in 2006. Now lots of clubs and groups, including Boroughmuir Rugby Club, Boroughmuir Hockey Club, Edinburgh Cala Hockey Club, Boroughmuir Thistle Football Club and Boroughmuir Cricket Club use the venue for training and competition.

In 2014 a decision was made to upgrade the existing sand filled pitch to a water based pitch. The project team was established in 2015 to kick start the refurbishment programme, with Ecosse Sports chosen as the preferred contractor for the work.

The works included extensive civil engineering works to install new irrigation around the pitch, a new spectator area, a new shock pad and a new water based artificial turf as supplied by TigerTurf UK.

The works were funded by Sportscotland, City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh Leisure, Edinburgh Hockey Club and The Springford Trust.

The works commenced in November 2015, however due to poor winter weather the programme was prolonged by the extremes of rain during that period, this meant that the pitch was handed over in March 2016.
