    Site:

    Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh

    Date Completed:

    June 2013

    Contract Description:

The natural grass technical area in front of the player’s tunnel in the west stand has always needed to withstand constant use and foot traffic and despite the best efforts of the grounds staff, this at times had been an impossible task. In spring 2013, it was decided by the SRU that a 3G artificial turf strip would replace an area of natural grass along the entire west stand to eliminate the premature deterioration of the grass in this area and thus the negative impact aesthetically this created. An area measuring 106m long by 2.4m wide was measured and set out before being excavated to a depth of 200mm. The construction of the new area was made up of a suitable geotextile membrane, appropriate Type 1 stone aggregate which was regulated and compacted before a 15mm insitu shockpad and 60mm 3G carpet with appropriate infill materials were installed. The client opted for TigerTurf ‘60XQ’ 3G artificial turf which along with the shockpad is an approved IRB reg 22 system.

    Date Completed:

    June 2014

    Contract Description:

The summer of 2014 saw the completion of a newly refurbished IRB reg 22 and FIFA 1* compliant synthetic sports surface at the Palace of Arts centre in Beallhouston Park, Glasgow. The original water-based synthetic pitch had reached the end of its useful life and with the opening of the national hockey centre at Glasgow Green, the decision was made that a new 3G combined football and rugby facility would better serve the sporting needs of local community. The area of the existing facility was in excess of 6500m2 and it was decided that as well replacing the existing synthetic grass carpet, that a new shockpad was required along with new fencing and ball stop netting. The spectator area at the north side of the pitch was also refurbished and the existing floodlighting inspected and tested for conformity. The FIFA 1*/IRB accredited system which incorporated TigerTurf ‘60XQ’ 3G carpet and 15mm insitu shockpad was installed at the facility to ensure that the required high performance standards were achieved.

    Scotstoun Sports Complex, Glasgow

    Date Completed:

    December 2014

    Contract Description:

Scotstoun Sports Complex is one of the most impressive and diverse sports centres in the country. As well as being the home venue for the Glasgow Warriors rugby team it also houses the National Badminton Academy and provides indoor and outdoor facilities for more than 12 different sports. Ecosse were therefore delighted in late 2014 to be asked to refurbish one of the full size synthetic pitches along with the existing four 3G 5-a-side football areas and three existing artificial turf tennis courts. The full size pitch was converted from a sand-filled synthetic turf pitch to a brand new 60mm 3G surface, using a new monofilament and fibrillated combined yarn profile. Once the old carpet and shockpad were removed, extensive works were carried out to the existing macadam including around the perimeter edges to provide a base that was within tolerance. A new 20mm insitu shockpad was also installed to compliment the new 3G carpet and ensure that the new facility met IRB reg 22 performance standards. Other works included remedial works to the perimeter fence and new sports equipment.
